How can a neighborhood with people living next to each other, in the same street, or even in the same building, turn into a community… I made myself this question many times…
La Isleta is not only a neighborhood, It is a strong community, forged in the last 100 years, with people from everywhere on the planet sharing common values, like tolerance, work, solidarity, or freedom…
Festivities
Every October is the Festivity of Nuestra Señora de La Luz, with lots of processions, music, concerts, etc… and every four years Nuestra Señora de La Luz, the Virgin Mary in this nearby church, walks in the street where we have our Coliving.
La Isleta is a neighborhood with a strong community life, probably one of the strongest sense of community in the Canary Islands, and these local festivals increase connections between neighbors. Without these festivals, there is no community.
For that important day, the street is decorated with flags and also with carpets made sometimes with salt and others with sawdust.
Experiencing this moment in La Isleta is having the opportunity to see the community live at its highest level…
What we did
We had the opportunity to help and engage with our neighbors in this activity and our colivers also worked to build these carpets.
It was so nice to see the coliving door open, the street without cars, and everybody helping each other to create something beautiful that lasted only a few hours…
Our Coliving stands for these unforgettable moments, encouraging everybody to collaborate and experience our local community values.
We are very grateful to be part of this activity. Some colivers loved it, they were impressed by the collaborative atmosphere in the street.
It was a “dream come true”, something unforgettable…
Tolerance, solidarity, and empathy, sometimes start with small steps, something like decorating a street or sharing some food, but the consequences are highly valuable…
