When we started our EcoIsleta community journey, everything we read or watched about Coliving focused on “community“, “the importance of community”, “community proposition”, “coliving without community is a shared flat”, “the word coliving comes from community and living”, etc,… community, community, community…
I wasn´t sure about it, but we started to learn, investigate, and listen to some experts about it, and to be honest, we love what we discover…
Community is not as easy as it sounds
Although coliving is a community experience, setting up any community is not an easy job, we have to say we are making many mistakes, some of which led us to amazing learnings…
We are also very grateful to our community members, for helping us in this journey, sharing, teaching us, and having fun in the process…
We base our community is some common values, like sustainability, but to increase the difficulty of our community, we are open to our local community, and one of our main goals is to connect all this remote work revolution with our neighbourhood needs and challenges…
All these goals of our community sound very nice, but are very complicated to deliver, to go from theory to practice we do different activities and strategies…
Walking in La Isleta
La Isleta is one of the most unknown places in Gran Canaria, and that is something that our EcoIsleta community wants to change because is a unique place full of history, community values, volcanos, beaches, etc…
Every week, we invite all members of our Coliving community, to walk in a path of viewpoints over El Confital, with one of us.
We start in the Coliving, in the heart of the neighborhood, surrounded by houses and cars, but after a 5-minute walk in the streets, we get to a natural area, full of beauty…
You don’t expect to see so much nature next to the city, we walk through volcanos and also see some others from some distance.
We find Archaeological sites that talk about the people who lived on the island before the Europeans came to conquer the Canary Islands.
It is the perfect place to understand how La Isleta was a separate island from the main island, Gran Canaria, also an opportunity to understand our history, why we have such a big port, why are all those mountains a military area, and so on…
One of the main purposes of our Coliving is to build a bridge between our culture and anybody who wants to understand us…
Dinners
Dinners are key in our community strategy, food can help to sit at the same table, locals and remote workers.
When they share a good meal, questions start to pop up easily. We need to know each other to build bridges between these two communities, and dinners are perfect to start any kind of conversation…
We have done many dinners, with people from different backgrounds and cultures…
Personally, I love to sit down at a table with people from all around the world, listen to their stories, beliefs, and challenges, but also learn about how they see the Canary Islands and what means for them to stay with us…
Join us for dinner
We do open dinners, don´t need to live in our coliving to join. We have an open Slack community to get in contact with other community members
