Back in October, we opened a Coliving house in our neighborhood. Of course, we did a lot of reading, listening and overall a lot of preparation in the process, but even in the few months we’ve been open we already have some things to share. This is our experience with our coliving, and what we have learnt from it so far.
Our first conclusions
Firstly, we never imagined how much of a community we would be able to create. With our first group, we all felt an instant connection to the point where they have keep contact and met in other parts of the world after leaving our house! Some of them have even collaborated on a professional level and done some networking thanks to the people they met.
Secondly, we have witnessed first hand how people from all over the world look at our neighborhood, our island, and what they love about it. Many people choose to come to the Canary Islands because of the weather, so what they look for the most is sun, warmth and the beach. However, they seem to be very pleasantly surprised once they discover our country side. Our island, Gran Canaria, is rich not only in amazing beaches but also in green landscapes.
Thirdly, most people come from big, busy cities where you can find absolutely every resource, every product, every activity. By coming here they expect to have a lack of services because of the size and location of the islands. However, we couldn’t ask for more! The main things our guests appreciate about our neighborhood/city/islands are the following:
-Lots of surfing, beach volleyball, windsurfing and other fun sports
-Many latin dance lessons and spaces to practice and meet people
–Coworking spaces to connect with other workers and digital nomads
What does the future look like for us?
When it comes to what we want to do from now on, we want to continue focusing on creating the best group of people possible. By achieving this, not only we will make the guests’s experience a lot better, but also we will guarantee that the group will be more prone to integrate in our neighborhood, care for it and know about our culture, needs and traditions, which has always been one of our main intentions.
Certainly, we have already done this by speaking in our local high schools, letting the students get to know more about our guests and their career choice to become digital nomads. But we won’t stop there: we want to develop periodic actions to take care of our space, like cleaning beaches and mountains; we want to provide our guests of information about our needs and how they can help; and most of all, we want them to experience what life is about here.
In short, our experience with out coliving so far has been short but rich in lessons, experiences and lots of amazing people we’ve connected with. This has definitely been a good decision, and we’re very excited for what’s to come! If you want to stay at our Coliving, fill this form. See you soon!
