Coliving is getting popular and coliving in the Canaries as well. The ecosystem is very rich and lots of different spaces with different approaches have been opening in the last few years.
So far, Tenerife and Gran Canaria are the main destinations for remote workers looking for a Coliving, with the biggest cities, the biggest ports, and airports.
Because of this, many entrepreneurs from all around the world are coming to the islands to open new colivings, but also you can see many pop-up experiences all around the year.
This is excellent, and remote workers can find different options on almost every island, thanks to the work of all these small entrepreneurs opening spaces.
Tenerife Coliving Ecosystem
Tenerife is probably the island with more units, some of the best colivings in Spain are located there, like Nine Coliving or Cactus.
There are a lot of options and many beautiful houses offer incredible experiences, mostly related to Surf, yoga, hiking, and wellbeing.
In Tenerife, most of the Colivings are located in the countryside or in small and medium villages, where the local communities can benefit from this remote work revolution.
The ecosystem got another good characteristic, they collaborate by doing events where they join their communities, bringing colivers of different units together.
Gran Canaria Coliving Ecosystem
Gran Canaria is also important in this market, but in our case, Las Palmas city is the main destination for most remote workers, the community in the city is growing very fast, thanks to the work of Repeople and Nacho or communities like Live it Up.
In Gran Canaria Repeople is growing very fast, offering an incredible ecosystem for remote workers, with many colivings in villages, and coworking spaces, but also organizing very important Festivals bringing to the island lots of experts in this field.
It is probably and so far the biggest coliving in the Canaries, the community and the events talk by themselves.
Also, the coworking ecosystem is very rich in the city, with places like Talleres Palermo, or Soppa de Azul.
All this together with the natural gift of Las Canteras beach, made the city a perfect location for many remote workers.
Local Colivings in the Canary Islands
Local experiences, local products, Km0, circularity, etc… we are facing a “local revolution”. Many travelers look for local products, they want to have a “local impact”, and they want to live and experience a place “like a local”… local, local, local, you can read it and hear it all around, in almost every blog, web, or book…
Turning to local economies is going to be one of the cornerstones of the new sustainable planet.
I did a small research if we can call it that, asking some people and researching webs of colivings in the Canary Islands to find out which ones are run by locals, those who can probably and expectedly offer the strongest and most deep experience in our local identity.
There are not too many runs by locals coliving in the Canaries, so far and as far as I know. We found Repeople, Cactus Coliving, Amarilla Coliving, 1907 Coliving, and EcoIsleta.
Cactus Coliving
On the beautiful island of Tenerife, we have Cactus Coliving, run by Maria, we met her last year because she came to our coliving to stay a few nights, she is a wonderful person, with an incredible house, I really love that house, offering a local experience that many colivers spread around the world.
Amarilla Coliving
Amarilla is another important coliving and coworking ecosystem in Tenerife run by Marina, they offer a big variety of quality accommodation and coworking spaces, in different parts of the island, north and south…
We would like to highlight their offer of retreats, a demand in constant growth in most companies facing remote work in their teams.
1907 Coliving
In Gran Canaria we have 1907 Coliving, a Coliving run by Raquel, in a traditional house in the old part of the city, she is also offering a local experience in Las Palmas, that many remote workers love.
In some ways it is complementary to our offer, she is in the old part of the city mainly built after the conquer of Gran Canaria in the XV century, and we are in the modern part of the city, build after the Industrial Revolution in the XIX century.
Repeople Coliving and Coworking
Also in Gran Canaria, we have Repeople, with many villas in Ciudad Jardin, a neighborhood built by the British, at the end of the XIX century, amazing houses with gardens are bringing many remote workers to the city.
Nacho is doing an incredible job, spreading the word of the Canary Islands all around the world to the remote workers, talking about our beauty and services…
Probably, there are more colivings run by locals, if you know any other, please let me know and we will update the post…
EcoIsleta Coliving
We are another coliving run by “canarios”, EcoIsleta Coliving offers a local experience in the city of Las Palmas.
We focus our experience on diving into our local identity, everything we do helps you in that way.
Our house is a traditional workers’ house in a worker’s neighborhood for remote workers, keeping these houses is key to keeping our identity. You will find us doing workshops and dinners, mainly with local recipes.
